RESPONSIBILITIES:   The Director of Pharmacy Business & Compliance Services will be a strategic thought-partner, hands-on, and participative leader able to work effectively across the Wake Health enterprise. He or she will maintain primary responsibility and authority in the areas of:

  • Preparing the annual operating and capital budgets
  • Pharmacy contracting and pharmaceutical purchasing
  • Performing monthly financial performance reviews
  • Medication safety initiatives
  • Managing 340B program compliance
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Managing billing, capital processes and revenue cycle
  • Formulary management
  • Departmental payroll oversight (PeopleSoft)
  • Financial outcomes
  • Implementing and monitoring health system financial policies

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Finance with MBA/ CPA or related degree; RPh or PharmD preferred
  • Healthcare financial management and/ or purchasing and supervisory experience
  • 10+ years of broad financial and operations management experience with at least 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytical, organization, and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
  • Licensed pharmacist or eligible for licensure in the State of North Carolina preferred

VICE PRESIDENT, CLINICAL AFFAIRS – SPECIALTY PHARMACY

Our client, Trellis Rx (Trellis) is a technology-enabled service provider that partners with health systems to fund, build, and operate world-class specialty pharmacies on their behalf, with their brand.

Trellis is seeking a highly motivated and skilled leader with experience in outpatient medication management who wants to lead a national program that can elevate the practice of pharmacy. This person will lead the development of best-in-class ambulatory clinical programs and support implementation of customer programs nationally.

The Vice President, Clinical Affairs will own relationships with physician executives and leaders at customer sites with the goal of achieving strong engagement and developing collaborative partnerships. This person will also co-lead the Trellis Advance Team responsible for launching customers and delivering outstanding clinical and operational results within a short period of time. In addition, the VP, Clinical Affairs will own the overall mandate of clinical quality improvement, as well as the recruiting and training of on-site Trellis clinical staff.

You would be responsible for:

Centralized/ oversight responsibilities:

  • Leading the development and implementation of best-in-class clinical and research protocols for specific disease states, to markedly and demonstrably improve patient outcomes
  • Creating and realizing the vision for clinical quality improvement at Trellis and customer sites to drive key clinical outcomes at a patient and population level
  • Providing clinical leadership for Trellis in discussions with pharmaceutical manufacturers and third-party payers
  • Providing executive support for the Advance Team and on-site Ambulatory Clinical Specialists
  • Leading the development of training materials for the Advance Team and on-site Ambulatory Clinical Specialists
  • Leading workshops and development seminars for Trellis customers’ pharmacy specialists and leadership groups
  • Representing Trellis at conferences and workshops nationally

On-site responsibilities:

  • Leading meetings with customers’ clinical leadership to win their support for the Trellis model
  • Owning the relationship with Trellis customers’ clinical staff, especially physicians and other providers, ensuring ongoing support and timely progress of the program
  • Leading clinic launch activities: setting expectations for desired clinical outcomes, and ensuring that performance meets or exceeds expectations
  • Supporting Trellis staff to ensure that the patient/Trellis engagement is appropriate and consistent with customer preferences, from patient enrollment to dispensing to clinical follow-up and related care
  • Co-creating and continuously improving clinical protocols together with customer physician leaders, and ensuring adherence to set protocols
  • Assisting the site General Manager with recruiting and training of on-site Pharmacy Liaisons and Ambulatory Clinical Specialists

We are excited to speak with someone who has:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy, at a minimum. Advanced degree (e.g. PharmD, M.S.) preferred
  • PGY2 training or Board Certification required
  • Five or more years of related experience as an ambulatory care specialist
  • Three or more years in a leadership role, preferably overseeing ambulatory care specialists based in clinics at a large hospital or health system
  • The ability to work across specialties
  • Strong people skills and the ability to work with functionally diverse teams across Trellis customers
  • The credibility and confidence to engage with physicians clinically
  • The ability to start from scratch, develop protocols and processes quickly, and execute and iterate quickly in service of Trellis patients and providers
  • The energy and willingness to be hands-on and do whatever is required to provide the best care to  Trellis patients
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels inside and outside the organization
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook Calendar

  • Experience at a multi-site, geographically diverse system
  • Experience with inpatient or outpatient specialty pharmacy
  • Proficiency in multiple EMR systems such as EPIC, Cerner, or Meditech

  • Oncology experience

Trellis is seeking proven leaders to help build and operate world class specialty pharmacy programs for its clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Developing goals, strategies, and tactics to ensure ongoing customer success.  This includes helping clients grow their specialty pharmacy program and ensuring that their program achieves profitable growth
  • Building, developing, and inspiring onsite specialty pharmacy teams of clinicians, liaisons, technicians, and other team members to outperform targets resulting in higher patient and provider satisfaction
  • Leading the Trellis onsite pharmacy and clinical teams, e.g., hematology-oncology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, endocrine, dermatology, and transplant.  This includes leading and providing direction to assure professional/ management development programs are available to promote the continued growth and effectiveness of the Trellis onsite team
  • Owning the relationship between Trellis and its health system client’s pharmacy and executive leadership teams
  • Managing external relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers and third-party payors on behalf of Trellis clients, including overseeing compliance of limited distribution drug and specialty pharmacy network contracts
  • Identifying opportunities and issues that impact client services and performance by engaging key stakeholders to plan, develop, and successfully execute timely and relevant initiatives and solutions that result in appropriate performance improvements
  • Leading the development of client-specific specialty pharmacy operating plans and forecasts.  This includes identifying needs, assisting in financial assessments, negotiating price and value, and managing requests and purchases

  • Proven leadership experience in a specialty pharmacy, health system, or managed care setting with a track record of profitability, transforming ideas into measurable operational changes
  • Experience leading various disciplines and levels of clinical professionals
  • Experience starting and/ or managing a specialty pharmacy operation within a health system
  • Proficiency with standard software used in healthcare settings, such as EMR systems, e.g., EPIC. Cerner, Meditech, and dispensing systems, e.g., QS1, RX30, Computer Rx
  • An advanced degree in a healthcare-related field or business administration
